At approximately 10:30 PM on Christmas Eve, a home was reported to be fully involved off of Claiborne Road. Despite not being the first due company, Engine 4 was the initial unit on scene and reported flames through the roof throughout most of the structure. The house was set well off of the lightly travelled Claiborne Road. The location, time of night, and decreased traffic due to the holiday likely allowed the extensive fire progression before 911 was notified.
Sadly, the occupant and several pets were unable to escape the flames and smoke.
Eventually the incident involved units from Companies 1, 2, and 4. Electric power crews were delayed over an hour to de-energize lines that were in the yard which prevented crews from extinguishing parts of the home. Also contributing to the evening was the need to shuttle water supplies to the remote location.
One firefighter suffered a minor injury but was released in time to assist with clean up activities.
Please keep the family in your thoughts. The joy of the holiday is now marked with a tragic loss for them.
